Middle School Career Expo

CTE Middle School Career Expo
Monte Vista High School
February 1, 2012
6:30 to 8:30

This event is for SRVUSD 7th and 8th grade students and their parents to explore pathways to 21st century careers and learn about the opportunities and resources available in the district to help prepare them. There will be the opportunity to talk to high school students taking career pathway courses and tour the College & Career Center and Career Technical Education facilities at Monte Vista High School. Students and parents will also have the opportunity to meet and talk with representatives from local industries, Contra Costa County Office of Education, ROP (Regional Occupational Program), Diablo Valley College and CSU East Bay.

Students, please sign-up in the Pine Valley Front Office so we will know the number of students and parents attending.

DONUT EATING CONTEST
Hey, Pumas! Do you want to shove your face in a donut? Well you can! On February 3rd there will be a donut eating contest. There are two types of donuts that you can choose from, chocolate or glazed. Only 10 people per period, so sign up fast!


HIGH SCHOOL CHEER TRYOUTS

You need your student ID card, money, and signed permission slip to get a ticket. Let’s have some fun!!

Attention all 7th and 8th grade students who are currently CJSF members and those who want to join. You must pick up an application in the office or in Rooms A112 and A111. You must complete the form and submit it together with a copy of your semester grades and $5 membership fee by February 10, 2012.

SAN RAMON SOCCER
San Ramon Soccer is proud to announce tryouts for the 2012 Fall Season. Tryouts begin January 28th. All U9-U14 players interested in playing SRS Competitive level soccer for the 2012 Fall Season need to register and attend the tryouts for their respective age group. ASA YOUTH BASKETBALL
We are excited  to begin sign-ups for our Spring 2012 ASA Basketball program. The club is led by Frank Allocco Jr., Head JV and Assistant Varsity Coach at De La Salle High School. We are accepting players currently in grades 3 through 9 in the Spring of 2012. Please visit our website www.asahoops.org for more information and registration information. The sign-up deadline is February 21.

Attention all 7th and 8th grade students who are currently CJSF members and those who want to join. You must pick up an application in the office or in Rooms A112 and A111. You must complete the form and submit it together with a copy of your semester grades and $5 membership fee by February 10, 2012.

EXPANDING YOUR HORIZONS
The 2012 Tri-Valley Expanding Your Horizons Career Conference for girls in grades 6 through 9 will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Diablo Valley College, San Ramon campus, from 8:30am to 3:00pm. This year’s keynote speaker, Alexandra Burgar, is an orthopedic surgeon in the Tri-Valley. Girls attend two 90-minute workshops that provide hands-on science or math-related activities which enable them to interact with professionals and science enthusiasts. Attendance per workshop is typically limited to 20 students to keep the instruction personal and interactive. In addition to workshops, girls also participate in a special activity and visit numerous career displays where they are able to interact with professionals from industry, government, academia, and public service, discussing career and education choices in a friendly and relaxed environment. Career fair participants distribute brochures and freebies and may advertise their special events. All this and lunch for only $20! Scholarships are available upon request. GROWING UP ASIAN IN AMERICA
Growing Up Asian in America is an art and essay contest for Bay Area youth organized by the Asian Pacific Fund. Students are invited to submit art, essays and poems that celebrate Asian heritage and express their ideas on being Asian and American. The entry deadline is Wednesday, March 7, 2012. There will be 18 cash prizes given out to the winners. If you are interested in entering this contest, please pick up a flyer in the office or visit www.asianpacificfund.org and search: Growing Up. You can also email contest@asianpacificfund.org.

SHE’S ALL THAT!

The 8th annual “She’s All That” conference will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at San Ramon Valley High in Danville from 9am to 3pm. This is an exciting event for all middle school girls and their parents. This year’s theme is “Live Your Dream.” There will be fabulous workshops for the girls and for their parents.
